Abstract

ABSTRACT The Georgetown Inlier and adjacent Croydon Province form the easternmost exposure of Proterozoic crust in the North Australian Craton and host diverse mineral systems ranging from the Palaeoproterozoic to the Permian. Despite this long-lived tectono-magmatic history, their overall metal endowment is modest compared with the Mount Isa, Curnamona, and Gawler provinces. This study synthesises geological, geochronological, geochemical, and mineral deposit data to evaluate the controls on mineral endowment. Mineralisation occurred episodically and includes Proterozoic IOCG-style Cu and Pb–Zn–Ag deposits, Mesoproterozoic pegmatite-hosted Li and high-purity silica systems, Siluro–Devonian intrusion-related Au, and Carboniferous–Permian porphyry, epithermal Au–Ag, and reduced Sn–W–Mo–U systems. Early Proterozoic mineralisation was variably overprinted by Mesoproterozoic metamorphism and later modified by Phanerozoic magmatism. Integration of igneous geochemistry with Rhyolite-MELTS modelling indicates that magma fertility was spatially and temporally restricted. Predominantly reduced, peraluminous Proterozoic magmatism, together with relatively thin lithosphere and repeated thermal reworking, limited both the formation and preservation of giant ore deposits. Nevertheless, the region remains prospective for pegmatitic Li–Cs–Ta, high-purity silica, and porphyry Cu–W–Mo–U mineral systems within its tectono-magmatic framework.

Mineralogical and geochemical signatures of the Malaguide-Ghomaride Culm Facies (Betic Cordillera and Rif Chain: Western Mediterranean): new constraints for the northern Gondwana plate tectonics

Abstract This study investigates the mineralogical and chemical composition of 25 slate samples and the petrography of four coarse-grained slates from seven sectors of the Carboniferous Culm Facies in the Malaguide (S Spain) and Ghomaride (N Morocco) domains (Betic Cordillera and Rif Chain). The succession comprises th...

Adakitic Permian magmatism along the eastern Gondwana margin: constraints on deep crustal processes and metallogenesis in northeastern Queensland

Abstract The Kennedy Igneous Association (KIA) of northeastern Queensland provides an opportunity to investigate links between granitoid magmatism, deep crustal processes and metallogenesis along the eastern Gondwana margin. This study integrates whole-rock geochemistry with new zircon U–Pb geochronology to constrain t...

Comparative Geochronological, Isotopic, and Petrographic Constraints on the Bou Azzer Co-Ni and Bleïda Cu Deposits in Morocco

The Bou Azzer and Bleïda deposits in the Anti-Atlas of Morocco are geographically close and occur within the same Neoproterozoic Pan-African tectonic framework, yet they host contrasting styles of metal mineralization. Bou Azzer hosts economically important Co–Ni mineral deposits linked to serpentinized ultramafic form...

Underthrusting linked to closure of the Rocas Verdes Basin: insights from Turonian/Coniacian satellite plutons, Isla Capitán Aracena, southern Patagonia, Chile

The Petite and Mercurio satellite plutons of the Patagonian Batholith intrude folded marine sedimentary successions and ophiolitic sequences within the Magallanes fold-and-thrust belt on Isla Capitán Aracena (~54° S), south of the Cenozoic transcurrent Magallanes-Fagnano Fault System. Their petrogenesis and tectonic si...

Early Cretaceous adakitic magmatism and contrasting mineralization-related and evolved intrusive facies at the Shangfeng Cu–Mo deposit, Zhejiang Province, SE China

Along the northeastern Qin–Hang metallogenic belt in coastal Zhejiang, Cu–Mo occurrences are generally small and discontinuous, and the role of late Early Cretaceous granitoid magmatism in porphyry-style mineralization remains poorly constrained. The Shangfeng Cu–Mo deposit, hosted by a composite intrusive system along...

Mineral Geochemical Implications in the Thermo-Barometric Conditions and Petrogenesis of the Bougouni Plutonic Complex, in Southern Mali (Léo-Man Shield, West African Craton)

The Bougouni Pegmatite Province is recognized as the largest in west Africa. It comprises lithium-bearing pegmatites, which are associated with Paleoproterozoic rock lithology of Bougouni unit. In west Africa, the Paleoproterozoic rocks show alternation between metasedimentary units, greenstone belt and intrusive pluto...
