Pembangunan karakter generasi muda berbasis Budaya Minangkabau
Abstract
This study aims to examine the role of Minangkabau culture through the Gandang Tasa traditional art in building the character of the younger generation, as well as to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in this process. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Research informants were selected purposively, including traditional leaders, community figures, trainers, and young people involved in Gandang Tasa activities. Data collection techniques involved observation, interviews, and documentation studies, while data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with validity testing using source triangulation. The results show that Gandang Tasa functions not only as entertainment but also as a medium for character formation among the younger generation. Character values formed include religiosity, integrity (politeness, discipline, and responsibility), and mutual cooperation. These values are instilled through routine practice, habituation, and social interaction within the group. Supporting factors include community support, the role of traditional leaders, and the continuity of cultural activities, while inhibiting factors include the influence of globalization, declining interest among youth, and changes in modern lifestyles.
