Determinants of Quality of Life Among Vietnamese Patients With Urolithiasis: A Cross-Sectional Study
Abstract
Urolithiasis is a common condition that adversely affect patients’ quality of life. This study aimed to identify factors associated with quality of life among individuals with urolithiasis. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 132 patients with urolithiasis at two hospitals between September 2021 and November 2022. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire assessing sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, patient satisfaction, and the Wisconsin Stone Quality of Life questionnaire. Multiple linear regression analyses were performed to identify factors associated with overall quality of life and its subdomains. Mean overall quality-of-life score was 79.02 ± 18.03. Patient satisfaction was associated with overall quality of life (β = 0.55, p < 0.001) and all subdomains, including social impact (β = 0.47, p < 0.001), emotional impact (β = 0.39, p < 0.001), disease impact (β = 0.45, p < 0.001), and vitality (β = 0.33, p < 0.001). Types of current surgical treatment were associated with overall quality of life (β = −0.27, p < 0.001), social impact (β = −0.24, p < 0.001), disease impact (β = −0.21, p = 0.019), and vitality (β = −0.28, p < 0.001). Patient satisfaction and types of current surgical treatment were significantly associated with quality of life among patients with urolithiasis. These findings highlight the importance of considering both patient-reported experiences and clinical characteristics when evaluating quality of life in this population.
