Abstract

Abstract Bauschinger effect in wear of in situ formed TiCx/high Cr white iron composite (TiCx/HCWI) against 440C steel counter-ball was studied. Friction coefficients as a function of time and time of changes in direction when cycles numbers (CN) of 0, 1, 2, 5, 10 were tested, respectively. Besides, the relationship between wear diameter and CN and micrographs of the worn surface for 440C steel counter-ball were researched. What’s more, surface roughness (Sa), wear resistance and height difference between the peak and valley (Spv) as a variation of CN, and micrographs of the worn surface for TiCx/HCWI were used to analyze the wear mechanism combined with the simulation results of wear microstress. This work shows that the obvious Bauschinger effect also appears in the wear process of TiCx/HCWI against 440C steel counter-ball compared with the previous work that TiCx/HCWI against Si3N4 ceramic counter-ball. The current work further broadens the scope of application for TiCx/HCWI in the field of improving processing efficiency.
