Grahani as a Functional Gastrointestinal Disorder: Bridging Ayurvedic Concepts with Contemporary Science
Abstract
Background: Grahani is a significant gastrointestinal disorder described in Ayurveda, primarily associated with impaired Agni (digestive and metabolic fire). Classical texts describe its multifactorial etiology, involving Mandagni, Ama formation, and disturbances of Doshas. In modern medicine, Grahani is often compared with functional gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) because of overlapping clinical manifestations.
