Advertising in Digital Journalism: Effects on News Credibility and Consumer Perception
Abstract
This study explores the intersection of advertising in digital journalism and its impact on news credibility and consumer perception. With the growing prevalence of digital media, advertising has become an essential revenue stream for online news outlets. However, this shift raises concerns about the potential compromise of journalistic integrity. The research examines how the integration of advertisements within digital news content affects the perceived credibility of news sources and influences consumer trust. Through a combination of content analysis, surveys, and interviews, the study reveals that while advertisements provide financial support, they also have a significant effect on readers' ability to distinguish between editorial content and promotional material. The findings highlight the ethical challenges faced by digital journalists in maintaining credibility while navigating the pressures of monetization. Ultimately, the study calls for a balance between advertising revenue and editorial independence to preserve the trustworthiness of digital journalism.
