Taking Gas Transportation to a New Level of Safety
Abstract
Natural gas supplies roughly one quarter of global primary energy demand, transported across pipelines, LNG carriers, floating LNG (FLNG) facilities and road trucks, each mode carrying a distinct and evolving risk profile. As global markets grow geopolitically sensitive and infrastructure ages, safety management has become a strategic imperative. This paper presents a structured, cross-modal framework for managing physical, operational and operational technology (OT) cybersecurity risks. It treats these three dimensions as interconnected pillars rather than separate problems and it uses optimization as the mechanism that directs safety efforts to where they deliver the most protection. The result is a system that is safe-by-construction and secure-by-default, delivering compounding gains in both safety performance and operational efficiency.
