Abstract

Plant pests and diseases—such as cutworms, aphids, mites, and nematodes, as well as stem rot and Cercospora and Septoria leaf spots—pose major challenges to celery cultivation. Root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) are known to reduce both quality and yield. This study evaluated the effectiveness of curry leaf (Murraya koenigii L.) powder in suppressing Meloidogyne spp. infestation on celery (Apium graveolens L.). A single-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was employed, comprising a control (500 larvae without powder) and four powder dosages: 9 g, 12 g, 15 g, and 18 g. The results indicated that the 18 g treatment was the most effective in reducing infestation intensity, resulting in only 1.0% damage compared to 6.7% in the control.

Dose-dependent efficacy of noni (Morinda citrifolia L.) leaf powder as a botanical bioinsecticide against Callosobruchus analis F. (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) in stored black soybean seeds

Abstract Stored black soybean seeds (Glycine max L. Merr. cv. Detam-1) are highly susceptible to infestation by the bruchid Callosobruchus analis F., which reduces seed quantity and physiological quality during storage. This study evaluated the dose-dependent efficacy of noni (Morinda citrifolia L.) leaf powder as a bo...

In-vitro nematicidal efficacy of aqueous leaf and root extracts from indigenous Ghanaian plants on Meloidogyne incognita egg hatch

Meloidogyne incognita is a devastating pest in the tropics which parasitises a wide range of crops, leading to economic damage. This study evaluated the in-vitro efficacy of aqueous leaf and root extracts from Tagetes erecta (African marigold), Moringa oleifera, and Solanum macrocarpon (Gboma) against M. incognita egg...

EFFICACY OF NUTMEG LEAF (MYRISTICA FRAGRANS HOUTT.) EXTRACT AS A BOTANICAL FUNGICIDE AGAINST ANTHRACNOSE IN RED CHILI PEPPER (CAPSICUM ANNUUM L.)

Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum sp. is one of the major diseases limiting red chili pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) production. The continuous use of synthetic fungicides has raised concerns regarding environmental contamination and the development of pathogen resistance, highlighting the need for safer and more susta...

Biochar Rates and Bio-Nematicide Effects on Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) Growth, Yield and Root-Knot Nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) Suppression in Northern Ghana

Root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) are among the most destructive pests limiting tomato production, particularly in tropical regions. Two experiments (pot and field trials) were conducted at the University for Development Studies, Nyankpala, Ghana, to evaluate the effects of different biochar amendment rates on the...
