Hispanismo-catolicismo, nacionalismo y política cultural de la dictadura militar chilena en la inauguración del Templo Votivo Nacional de Maipú (1974)
Abstract
This paper analyzed, through a dialogue between history and cultural patrimony, the inauguration of the National Votive Temple of Maipú (October 24, 1974) as a key episode to understand the cultural policy of the Chilean Military Dictatorship. Elements of Hispanist-Catholicist and nationalist discourse were recognized in various speeches, performances, and events throughout the event. Subsequently, this analysis was contrasted with the text Política Cultural del Gobierno de Chile (1975). As a hypothesis, we argue that the inauguration ceremony of the National Votive Temple of Maipú presented a discursive contradiction by appealing to a Hispano-Catholic and colonial memory, in parallel to a nationalist one, subject to the period of Independence and Americanist fraternity.
