Historical materialism and its discontents
Abstract
The interview situates Banaji’s work within the broader tradition of historical materialism. It examines the intellectual influences that have shaped his research, his relationship to Marxist theoretical production in Central and Eastern Europe, and more general problems of Marxist epistemology. At the same time, it addresses more specific questions concerning Banaji’s perspectives on commercial and state capitalism, feudalism, and their place within the broader concept of the mode of production.
