The Role of Moringa oleifera in the Prevention and Treatment of Periodontal Disease: A Narrative Review

Nov 2026 · Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research · 0 citations

Abstract

Periodontal disease is an inflammatory condition caused by pathogenic bacteria in dental plaque and dysregulated host responses. Due to the limitations of conventional antiseptics, natural alternatives like Moringa oleifera (MO) have gained interest for managing this condition. The present review examines the potential of MO extract based on literature from PubMed, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar from January 2014 to May 2026, covering various studies. Findings suggest that MO extract possesses antiinflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties, promotes periodontal tissue healing, bone regeneration and supports implant osseointegration, indicating it may be a promising natural alternative for periodontal disease management. However, further translational studies are necessary to confirm these effects in clinical settings, determine optimal concentrations, and ensure long-term safety.
