Maintenance Of Wooden Ship Engines For Transporting Goods
Abstract
General Background Maritime transportation systems rely heavily on cargo ship engines to maintain efficient coastal and inter-island supply chains. Specific Background This study examines the practical maintenance and repair procedures applied to wooden cargo ship diesel engines at PT. Duta Bahtera Permai. Knowledge Gap Despite the critical operational role of wooden vessels, empirical documentation regarding practical field-based troubleshooting and routine upkeep remains scarce. Aims This research aims to evaluate mechanical maintenance methods, component inspections, and repair processes conducted during engineering internships. Results Findings demonstrate that structured maintenance practices enable students and technicians to accurately identify malfunctions, service lubricating systems, and sustain engine reliability. Novelty This work provides a field-documented evaluation of wooden vessel diesel engine upkeep under high-load operating conditions. Implications Systematic maintenance training directly improves technical proficiency and operational safety readiness for engineering professionals. Key Findings Highlights Routine maintenance practices successfully sustain engine performance and extend mechanical lifespan under high-load operating conditions, Practical field inspections enable accurate identification of lubrication, cooling, and fuel system malfunctions, Structured internship involvement bridges academic theory with practical maritime engineering competencies.
