MODEL OF PLANNED MAINTENANCE SYSTEM FOR SHIPS AND SPECIAL SAFETY EQUIPMENT FOR XYZ INSTITUTION

Sep 2026 · International Journal of Marine Engineering and Applications · 0 citations · 18 references

Abstract

Patrol boats and specialized safety equipment operated by Institution XYZ play a vital role in maintaining maritime security and supporting search and rescue (SAR) operations. However, their maintenance activities have not been supported by a structured maintenance guideline. The research objects include Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs), motorized inflatable boats, and diving equipment used for patrol and search and rescue operations. A qualitative descriptive method was employed through a literature review, field observations, interviews, and condition assessments of the vessels and equipment. The results indicate that the operational assets remain serviceable, although several components require routine maintenance, spare-part replacement, and corrective repairs. Based on the survey findings, a Planned Maintenance System was developed, consisting of annual maintenance schedules, five-year special surveys, and maintenance recommendations for vessel structures, propulsion systems, navigation equipment, and safety equipment. The analysis showed that the highest maintenance requirements were identified for RIB 600 in the third year and RIB 500 in the fourth year, with eight maintenance items each. Meanwhile, RIB 850 and RIB 85 required the most maintenance in the fourth and fifth years, with eleven maintenance items each. The proposed Planned Maintenance System provides a structured maintenance guideline that can improve maintenance planning, support operational readiness, and enhance the reliability of patrol vessels and specialized safety equipment at Institution XYZ.
