Abstract

Organic semiconductors serve as the cornerstone for next-generation flexible, cost-effective, and large-area optoelectronics, offering profound research significance and immense industrial potential. Compared to their polycrystalline and amorphous counterparts, organic single crystals possess distinctive advantages, including long-range molecular order, minimal defect density, superior intrinsic carrier mobility, and robust environmental stability. Consequently, they provide an ideal benchmark for probing fundamental charge transport physics and developing high-performance devices. In this review, we briefly trace the evolution of organic semiconductor single crystals (OSSCs) before discussing recent breakthroughs in the field. We place particular emphasis on the crystallization kinetics, continuous fabrication techniques, carrier transport mechanisms, electronic and optoelectronic applications of OSSCs. Finally, we offer insights into future trajectories, focusing on crystallization theories, charge transport mechanisms, and device technologies compatible with scalable processing.
