Relationship Between Social Media Addiction and Adolescents’ Psychological Well-Being
Abstract
This study is motivated by the increasing use of social media among adolescents, which may be associated with psychological well-being. Intensive use of social media can lead to addiction that may influence an individual’s psychological condition. This study aims to examine the relationship between social media addiction and psychological well-being among adolescents. This research employed a quantitative method with a correlational design. The participants consisted of 179 adolescents who are active social media users. Data were collected using social media addiction and psychological well-being scales and analyzed using Spearman Rank correlation. The results showed a significant relationship between social media addiction and psychological well-being (ρ = 0.259; p < 0.001) with a weak correlation strength. The positive direction indicates a tendency for psychological well-being to increase along with higher social media addiction scores; however, this finding should be interpreted with caution. Most participants were categorized at a moderate level for both variables. These findings highlight the importance of managing social media use wisely and considering other factors that may influence psychological well-being.
