Abstract

The high rates of domestic violence and gender inequality in Indonesia indicate that the family has not yet fulfilled its role as a protective environment to the full, whilst also revealing a gap between the normative principles of Islamic family law and empirical reality. This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic family education in fostering legal awareness, promoting fair family law practices, and building compassionate relationships to strengthen the protection of the rights of children and women. The method employed is qualitative, utilizing library research through a normative-juridical approach and content analysis of primary sources the Qur'an, Hadith, family law literature, and the writings of Buya Hamka. The research findings indicate that family education grounded in the principles of tawhid, justice ('adl), compassion (rahmah), and parental exemplary behavior functions effectively as a preventive and transformative instrument. The instilling of these values through egalitarian parenting practices and prophetic communication styles (such as qaulan ?ad?da, ma'r?fa, layyina, and kar?ma) has proven capable of deconstructing hierarchical-patriarchal relationship patterns that are prone to triggering acts of violence. The novelty of this research lies in the conceptual integration of Islamic family education and gender-responsive legal awareness, positioning the family not merely as a means of moral socialization, but also as an institution that shapes social reality and upholds just family law. The practical implications of this research recommend a reorientation of pre-marital education programs and family counseling to prioritize the values of equality and the protection of rights.
