Bounded Operational Continuity in ESS-MAI: A Source-Derived PD Checkpoint and Replay Experiment

Oct 2026 · Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)
Distributed systems and fault tolerance

Abstract

This research preprint reports a bounded operational continuity experiment derived from the ESS-MAI / AIGovern-Cyber Progressive Debatic engine. It defines exact checkpoint-byte equality between uninterrupted execution and restoration into a fresh process at every observed turn. The public Apache-2.0 software contains source provenance, a new scoped storage adapter, frozen inputs, commands and raw execution evidence. Local Rust 1.98.0 Windows GNU validation passed 35 tests (20 inherited unit tests and 15 integration tests), with zero failures, ignored tests or compiler warnings. Exact equality held at five evolving dialogue prefixes and all 65 process-per-turn prefixes. Locked offline release build passed. The paper retains the adverse finding that a coherent older valid history is accepted. It does not claim unlimited continuity, power-loss safety, authenticated freshness, scientific truth, native knowledge admission or full-system certification. New adapter code is distinguished from extracted source; AI-assisted engineering and the author-reported shell-based review practice are disclosed. This is an unreviewed preprint inviting reproduction and counterexamples. The impact of agile practices on communication in software development

The study shows that agile practices improve both informal and formal communication, but indicates that, in larger development situations involving multiple external stakeholders, a mismatch of adequate communication mechanisms can sometimes even hinder the communication.
