Abstract

The low mathematics learning outcomes in the multiplication operation material in grade III SDK St. Joseph 2 are caused by students' difficulties in understanding the concept of multiplication and the limited use of concrete learning media. This condition encourages the need for the use of media that can help students understand the concept of multiplication more easily and meaningfully. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of Multiplication Box media on the mathematics learning outcomes of grade III students of SDK St. Joseph 2 on multiplication operation material. This study uses a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample amounted to 28 students who were determined using the saturated sample technique. Data collection is carried out through learning outcome tests in the form of pretest and posttest. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results showed that the average student score increased from 75.71 in the pretest to 91.43 in the posttest with an average difference of 15.71 points. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a significance value of p < 0.001, which means that there was a significant difference between the learning outcomes before and after the use of the Multiplication Box media. Thus, the use of Multiplication Box media has a positive effect on improving students' mathematics learning outcomes in multiplication calculation operation materials.
