Strengthening the Capacity of Integrated Health Service Post Cadres through MP-ASI Education and Training: Impact on the Prevalence of Toddler Stunting in Tasikmalaya
Abstract
Stunting remains a major public health issue in Indonesia, including in the working area of the Kawalu Health Center, Tasikmalaya. Proper complementary feeding (MP-ASI) plays a crucial role in stunting prevention. However, many Integrated Health Service Post (Posyandu) cadres still lack adequate knowledge and skills in MP-ASI provision. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of MP-ASI training in increasing the knowledge of Posyandu cadres. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach without a control group was used. A total of 20 cadres from three sub-districts were selected purposively. The intervention consisted of a one-day training program involving lectures, group discussions, and hands-on practice. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire and analyzed using Paired Sample T-Test. Results: The findings showed a significant increase in cadres' knowledge scores from an average of 20.55 (SD=1.27) before the training to 22.05 (SD=0.99) after the training, with a p-value of 0.000. The reduction in standard deviation indicates greater uniformity in understanding among cadres. Conclusions: MP-ASI training that combines theoretical education and practical application is effective in enhancing the knowledge of Posyandu cadres. These findings support the importance of strengthening cadres' capacity as frontline nutrition educators in community-based stunting prevention efforts
