Abstract

The study found that the transformation of the external environment caused by the full-scale war in Ukraine has forced enterprises to reconsider their managerial priorities. The highest priorities have become employee safety, organizational resilience, preservation of assets, prompt decision-making, and the ability to operate under conditions of persistent uncertainty. The aim of the article is to analyze the key management challenges under wartime conditions and assess their impact on the activities of Ukrainian enterprises in order to substantiate practical recommendations for responding to these challenges. The methodological framework of the study is based on the combination of the system and situational approaches, as well as the methods of comparative analysis, generalization, and logical modeling. The study substantiates that the key challenges of contemporary management under wartime conditions include an extremely high level of uncertainty, security threats to employees and enterprises, financial instability, supply chain disruptions, and the need to implement adaptive leadership. It is proved that the identification of these challenges is not merely a description of crisis factors but also the determination of the main sources of negative impact that necessitate new approaches to managerial flexibility, organizational resilience, and adaptability. Based on a comparative analysis, it has been found that, compared with the pre-war period, these challenges significantly increase the requirements for the speed of managerial decision-making, the flexibility of management systems, and the ability of enterprises to adapt rapidly to changes in the external environment. A methodological approach to the integrated assessment of the impact of key management challenges on managerial performance, organizational resilience, and enterprise competitiveness is proposed, enabling the determination of the intensity of their impact and the prioritization of managerial responses. Based on the assessment results, practical recommendations are proposed, including the implementation of scenario-based and short-term adaptive planning, the development of human-centered security management, enhancement of financial flexibility through cash flow management, diversification and strengthening of supply chain resilience, as well as the adoption of a decentralized and adaptive leadership model. The implementation of these measures will contribute to improving organizational resilience, management efficiency, and the competitiveness of enterprises under wartime conditions. The practical significance of the results lies in their applicability for improving managerial approaches, monitoring risks, and developing response measures to address uncertainty in the external environment.
