The Mediating Roles of Work Life Balance and Job Satisfaction on the Relationship between Self- Efficacy and Organizational Commitment
Abstract
This study investigated whether work–life balance and job satisfaction mediate the association between self-efficacy and organizational commitment among public secondary school teachers in Region XI, Philippines. A quantitative, non-experimental, correlational research design was employed, involving 440 teachers from ten school divisions in the region. Participants were selected through stratified random sampling, and data were collected using adapted survey questionnaires. The gathered data were processed using weighted mean, Pearson product-moment correlation, and double mediation analysis. The results showed that the respondents demonstrated very high levels of self-efficacy, organizational commitment, work–life balance, and job satisfaction. Significant positive relationships were likewise observed among the variables included in the proposed model. Nevertheless, the mediation analysis showed that neither work–life balance nor job satisfaction significantly mediated the relationship between self-efficacy and organizational commitment, as the confidence intervals of the corresponding indirect effects included zero. These findings suggest that although work–life balance and job satisfaction were positively associated with the variables examined, their indirect effects on the relationship between self-efficacy and organizational commitment were not statistically established. The findings may provide useful evidence to inform the development of policies and programs aimed at strengthening teachers' self-efficacy, promoting work–life balance, and enhancing job satisfaction, thereby supporting organizational commitment among public secondary school teachers in Region XI. Furthermore, the study contributes to the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by providing empirical evidence on promoting healthy, supportive, and sustainable work environments in the teaching profession in the Philippines
