Organizational and Methodological Principles of Internal Control in the Context of Digitalization
Abstract
The transition from paper to fully electronic document management and cloud data storage requires the development of new methodological approaches to verifying the authenticity, completeness and reliability of digital traces. The purpose of the study is to theoretically substantiate, develop and improve the organizational and methodological principles of the functioning of the enterprise's internal control system in the context of digitalization to increase its efficiency, adaptability to new technological risks and ensure the economic security of business entities. The work uses the dialectical method and system approach, methods of synthesis and analysis, induction and deduction, as well as modeling. The study found that the formation of updated organizational and methodological principles allows enterprises to adapt internal control to the requirements of the digital economy, ensure its continuity and increase the accuracy of management decisions. At the same time, the rapid implementation of IT systems creates threats of cyberattacks, leakage of confidential information, system failures and data loss, and therefore internal control must adapt risk assessment methods to these new challenges. It is noted that the reduction of routine manual work shifts the focus of internal controllers to analytical work, evaluation of software algorithms and setting up IT controls. Since automation allows us to abandon selective control in favor of continuous monitoring of operations in real time, the need to develop new organizational regulations for control services is substantiated. It is proven that existing classical models of internal control (for example, the COSO concept) require adaptation and detailing at the enterprise level, taking into account the specifics of digital platforms and ERP systems. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the substantiation of a conceptual model of integrated internal control, which, unlike existing ones, is based on a combination of classical lines of defense with automated algorithms of end-to-end data monitoring, which allows for preventive control of operations in real time. The article also improves methodological approaches to assessing risks in internal control through the integration of Big Data tools and predictive analytics, which allows detecting anomalies in business processes at the stage of their emergence or documentation. The development of modern organizational and methodological principles will allow businesses to minimize losses from operational errors using automatic algorithms and increase the speed of decision-making by obtaining instant and reliable data on deviations from standards. The study proves that such principles are not static instructions – they are a flexible digital ecosystem that integrates control directly into everyday business processes, ensuring transparency and a high level of risk protection.
