Abstract

Drug use among adolescents has become a significant social and public health problem, severely affecting the personal, academic, and social development of young people. In the Chipachiua neighborhood, adolescents aged 14 to 18 exhibit excessive consumption of psychoactive substances, with prevalence increasing with age. Research data indicate that 60% of 18-year-old adolescents use drugs, with a predominance of males (60%) compared to females (40%). Regarding family context, 65% live with their parents, while 35% live on the streets, and most families have a medium socioeconomic status (65%), showing that drug use is not restricted to extreme poverty contexts. The study, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches, used semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, participant observation, and document analysis to understand the individual, familial, social, and cultural factors associated with drug use. Key contributing factors include family breakdown, bullying, neuropsychological issues, lack of religious guidance, family history of alcohol use, and unemployment. Observed consequences include poor academic performance, risk behaviors, social isolation, depression, and vulnerability to criminality. As an intervention, the study proposes the creation of a professional training center for adolescent drug users, providing technical education, productive engagement, psychosocial support, and social integration. This initiative aims to reduce drug use, strengthen social skills, improve academic performance, and expand opportunities for labor market insertion, promoting social inclusion and personal development. In conclusion, educational and professional strategies adapted to the sociocultural conditions of adolescents are effective measures for prevention and social reintegration. Implementing practical courses combined with psychosocial support can transform the reality of these young people, contributing to improved individual and community quality of life in the Chipachiua neighborhood.
