Abstract

This article aims to analyze the presence of collectives belonging to the Xukuru do Ororubá indigenous people on Instagram, seeking to examine how communicational autonomy manifests itself and to what extent the occupation of digital networks can be understood as a digital dimension of the body-territory. The research conducted a qualitative and interpretative analysis of 118 posts collected between January 1 and July 19, 2026, from the profiles of the Jupago Kreká Collective, ACIX, the Xukuru do Ororubá Indigenous Women’s Collective, Ororubá Filmes, and Poyá Limolaygo. The corpus was subjected to a floating reading and thematic content analysis, coded into ten analytical categories related to communicational autonomy. The results reveal a distributed and complementary communicational articulation, in which different collectives assume specific roles in the production and circulation of narratives concerning territory, ancestry, memory, sociopolitical organization, spirituality, agroecology, education, and women’s leadership. The study concludes that Xukuru communicational autonomy constitutes a relational practice of resistance and meaning-making, articulated with the defense of territory and ways of life. Digital presence thus constitutes a dimension of the body-territory, in which cybercitizenship and the production of self-represented narratives operate as strategies for confronting data coloniality.
