Abstract

This study aimed to formulate and evaluate a herbal elixir containing extracts of Mimosa pudica (Touch - me - not) and Azadirachtaindica (Neem) for the management of UTI - causing microorganisms.Leaves of Azadirachtaindica and whole plant/leaf material of Mimosa pudica were extracted using suitable solvents and subjected to phytochemical screening to identify bioactive constituents such as flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, glycosides, and phenolic compounds. The standardized extracts were incorporated into a herbal elixir using appropriate excipients to ensure stability, palatability, and uniformity. The formulated elixir was evaluated for physicochemical parameters including color, odor, pH, viscosity, and stability under specified storage conditions. Microb iological limit tests were performed to confirm microbial safety. The antibacterial activity was assessed using the agar well diffusion method against common uropathogenic bacteria, namely Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Klebsiellapneumoniae , and the zones of inhibition were compared with those of standard antibiotics.Phytochemical analysis confirmed the presence of several biologically active constituents known for antimicrobial activity. The combination of Mimosa pudica and Azadirachtaindic a extracts produced larger zones of inhibition than individual extracts, indicating a synergistic antimicrobial effect. The formulation showed promising efficacy comparable to conventional antibacterial agents against selected UTI pathogens. The synergistic action of the combined plant extracts suggests that the formulation may serve as a safe, effective, and natural alternative for the management of urinary tract infections. Further in vivo studies and clinical evaluations are recommended to est ablish its therapeutic efficacy, safety, and potential for large - scale pharmaceutical application.
