Abstract

To address the issue of false negatives or false positives in static thresholds under complex rainfall conditions, this study proposes a method for updating early warning thresholds for reservoir safety status classification based on the fusion of multi-source data from rainfall monitoring. Based on a four-dimensional indicator system comprising seepage, deformation, hydrometeorological data, and stress, a comprehensive feature sequence is constructed using signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) weighting and sliding window smoothing. The safety status is classified into four levels—normal, watch, alert, and alarm—based on quantiles and rates of change. Bayesian online change-point detection is used to identify statistical change points for delineating stable phases. Within each phase, upper and lower threshold curves are fitted using extreme value quantile regression, enabling adaptive adjustment of thresholds in response to rainfall conditions. Experimental results show that the method achieves an average F1-score of 0.94 and exhibits zero missed and false alarms during typical flood events, validating its effectiveness.

A health-score-based framework for quality assessment and spatial reconstruction of rainfall monitoring data in reservoir watersheds

Reliable rainfall records are essential for flood forecasting, reservoir operation and water resource management, yet automatic rain-gauge networks often contain persistent fixed values, long data gaps, isolated spikes and short peaks without realistic recession behavior. We present a model-driven framework for diagnos...

Reducing false alarms in crackmeter-based early warning of small-scale slope deformation via deep learning-driven asynchronous displacement–rainfall data fusion

Real-time crackmeter-based deformation monitoring systems for small-scale rainfall-affected slopes suffer from high false alarm rates. Across multi-slope monitoring settings, threshold-based alerts are vulnerable to noise, while conventional denoising and prediction-based validation methods remain limited in automate...

KALMAN FILTER APPLICATION IN WATER LEVEL FLOOD DETECTION

Flooding is one of the most frequent natural disasters and often causes substantial damage to infrastructure and communities. Reliable flood monitoring and Early Warning Systems (FEWS) are therefore essential to mitigate risks and enable timely response. However, measurement noise caused by environmental disturbances s...

Multi-Feature Classification of Displacement Alarm Causes Using IoT-Based Slope Monitoring Sensor Data

Internet of Things (IoT)-based slope monitoring systems support real-time stability surveillance, but frequent false alarms cause alarm fatigue and delay responses to genuine hazards. We developed a clustering-based framework that classifies alarm causes into three categories—Malfunction, Actual Displacement, and Other...

Multi-Indicator Fusion-Based Unsupervised Statistical Method for Slope Deformation Anomaly Warning in Open-Pit Coal Mines

Open-pit coal mine slope spalling events are rarely fully documented with sufficient samples, and the precision of publicly available monitoring data is inconsistent. To address these problems, this study develops a causality-oriented anomaly identification method that fuses four indicators: velocity, acceleration, per...
