Abstract

Background. The investigation of protective screens is crucial, and a systematic analysis of the shielding properties of the metallic mesh components–considering variations in wire material, wire diameter, cell size and shape, and mesh/wire coating–is necessary for optimal enclosure selection across a broad frequency range. Aim. To obtain calculated values for the shielding effectiveness(electromagnetic radiation attenuation coefficient) of protective screens with varying metallic mesh parameters within a frequency range of 10 kHz to 10 GHz; to conduct a comparative analysis of these calculated values; and to formulate recommendations for selecting metallic meshes for enclosure fabrication that provide the most effective attenuation performance within the specified frequency range. Methods. Mathematical modeling of electromagnetic wave propagation within protective screens incorporating metallic meshes. This approach significantly reduces the costs associated with solving the problem through experimental means. Results. Calculated values for the shielding effectiveness(electromagnetic radiation attenuation coefficient) of protective screens with varying metallic mesh parameters were obtained across the frequency range of 10 kHz to 10 GHz. A comparative analysis of these calculated values was performed. Recommendations were formulated regarding the selection of metallic meshes for enclosure fabrication to achieve optimal attenuation performance within the specified frequency range. Conclusion. The proposed approach allows for an effective assessment of the shielding properties of protective screens without the need for their fabrication, resulting in significant cost and time savings during their design.
