Content-Edited Layout Generation for Graphic Design

Abstract

In this paper, we formulate a novel form of conditional layout generation for graphic design, termed content-edited layout generation(CELG). CELG extends conventional content-aware layout generation (CLG), which generates a foreground layout for a fixed background image. The key distinction is that CELG treats the input image as an editable visual asset and, conditioned on a textual design intention and a foreground requirement that may be empty, produces an adapted background together with its layout. To study this task, we introduce Search-Compare-Edit(SCE), a data construction framework that supplies the paired supervision missing from existing design datasets. Starting from professional design canvases and their layouts, SCE synthesizes plausible pre-edit source images and corresponding editing instructions, yielding InstructEdit, a dataset of aligned source images, target canvases, instructions, and layouts. Based on the generated data, we train a two-flow multimodal flow matching model that couples a pretrained image editor with a layout flow transformer, enabling background editing and layout generation simultaneously within a unified framework that more closely reflects real-world design workflows. Our experiments systematically demonstrate the value of CELG as a distinct task and the performance advantages of the proposed model.

Learning Interaction between Image and Layout Priors for Joint Image-Layout Generation in Design Templates

In this paper, we address the problem of graphic design template creation, which generates a background image and a layout of foreground elements over the background to form a harmonious composition from an input text. Prior work on graphic design generation mostly adopts a sequential paradigm, where design elements ar...

PLAYGROUND: Progressive Layout Generation with Render-Grounded Planning

Generating editable graphic designs requires arranging visual and textual elements into a coherent composition while preserving their content and editability. Although recent MLLM-based approaches employ iterative generation and visual refinement to reflect the real-world design workflows, their high-level plans are pr...

FontCopilot: A Designer-in-the-Loop System for Chinese Vector Font Design

Designing Chinese fonts is challenging due to the structural complexity of ideographic characters and the scale of character sets (e.g., over 80,000 characters in GB 18030). Existing font generation methods often produce non-editable raster images or offer limited stylistic control, which restricts their use in profess...

MOSS-Image Technical Report

Recent closed-source image generation systems can produce diverse visual content from simple compositions to information-dense graphics, yet open-weight text-to-image models still struggle with dense text and intricate layouts. To narrow this gap, we introduce MOSS-Image, an open generation system that combines high-fi...

From Prompting to Composing: A Spatial Canvas Interface for Poster Generation

Text prompting is an indirect interface for poster generation, requiring users to encode inherently two-dimensional composition intent into a one-dimensional sequence of words. We introduce a Spatial Canvas Interface that enables users to directly compose generation intent in space through four complementary binding ty...

VibeEdit: Image Editing with Canvas Instructions

In text-guided image editing, describing the desired change is often straightforward, but identifying the intended object or region can be cumbersome, especially when several objects look alike. We introduce a new image editing interface that lets users place spatial marks and optional short notes directly on the image...
