Minimally Invasive C-Shaped incision as a novel approach for Endodontic Microsurgery: A case report.
Abstract
INTRODUCTION Endodontic microsurgery (EMS) is a well-established treatment for persistent periapical pathology when orthograde retreatment is not feasible or has failed. Surgical access is traditionally achieved using a sulcular or submarginal flap. However, these flap designs may be associated with aesthetic limitations and postoperative discomfort.
Methods
This case report describes the use of a vertical Minimally Invasive C-shaped (MICS) incision as a simple and minimally invasive alternative to the conventional flap designs.
Results
Its curved configuration facilitates atraumatic flap retraction, maintaining vascular integrity, and enables tension-free primary closure. At 1 year, both cases showed complete periapical healing and healthy soft tissues without scarring or gingival recession.
Conclusion
The MICS incision represents a promising minimally invasive alternative for conventional flap designs in EMS. Its potential effect on postoperative pain and swelling remains to be investigated.
