Universal topological magnetoresistance probed in Fe3GeTe2 at skyrmion state
Abstract
Direct electrical detection of topological spin textures is a crucial prerequisite for developing the next-generation spintronic devices based on them. Here, we systematically investigate the longitudinal electronic transport responses to skyrmions on the two-dimensional van der Waals itinerant ferromagnet model material Fe3GeTe2 (FGT). We observed a pronounced anomalous signature of magnetoresistance (MR) corresponding to the skyrmion formation. Remarkably, the MR profiles of FGT can be normalized into a scaling law, which was unexpected to perfectly overlap with that reported in other distinct skyrmion system. These discoveries reveal that the anomalous MR is an intrinsic transport signature fundamentally initiated by the nontrivial spin topology of skyrmion evolution and independent of the underlying crystal lattice. A universal theory could be prospected to frame such a topological MR, which allows us a robust electrical probe for exploring topological spin textures.
