TAFSIR MODERASI BERAGAMA SEBAGAI JALAN PERADABAN

Abstract

This article examines the interpretation of religious moderation as a foundation for building a peaceful and sustainable civilization amid the complexities of contemporary global dynamics. The development of the modern world, characterized by globalization, technological advancements, and the increasing intensity of cross-cultural interactions, has significantly influenced religious life by creating opportunities for dialogue while also giving rise to potential conflicts. The phenomena of radicalism, intolerance, and the politicization of religion have emerged as serious challenges that threaten social stability. In response, religious moderation offers an approach that emphasizes balance, justice, and tolerance in understanding and practicing religious teachings. This study employs a library research method by examining classical and contemporary Qur'anic exegeses (tafsir) alongside relevant scholarly literature. The findings indicate that the concept of religious moderation in Islam is rooted in the principle of wasatiyyah (the middle path), as reflected in the Qur'an, particularly in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:143). The interpretation of Qur'anic verses on religious moderation highlights the importance of justice, tolerance, and inclusiveness in social life. Furthermore, religious moderation plays a strategic role in preventing radicalism, strengthening interfaith dialogue, and promoting social justice. Therefore, the interpretation of religious moderation can be understood as a paradigm that integrates spiritual and social values in fostering a harmonious, peaceful, and civilized civilization.
