This letter investigates a downlink communication system utilizing a single-waveguide pinching-antenna system (PASS) assisted by a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS). We focus on the joint optimization of the positions of pinching antennas (PAs) along a waveguide and the phase shifts of the RIS to maximize the achievable rate. A novel three-stage optimization algorithm is developed to address the formulated highly non-convex non-linear programming (NLP) problem. Firstly, the optimal RIS phase shifts are derived in closed-form to constructively combine the reflected signals with the direct link signals. Secondly, the antenna positions are optimized to minimize the large-scale path loss to both the RIS and the user, utilizing a sequential convex approximation (SCA) approach that transforms the problem into a convex form. Finally, a wavelength-scale offset is computed to ensure precise phase coherence at the user. Simulation results demonstrate that the RIS-assisted PASS outperforms conventional fixed-antenna systems and standalone PASS benchmarks. Moreover, the proposed three-stage method achieves near-optimal performance.
Full-duplex (FD) communication theoretically doubles spectral efficiency. Despite this potential, its practical performance is primarily constrained by severe self-interference (SI) and co-channel interference. Moreover, conventional fixed antenna arrays suffer from limited spatial flexibility, resulting in insufficien...

Existing studies on the pinching-antenna system (PAS) assume that waveguides are deployed straight, which fails to serve communication regions with curved boundaries. To address this limitation, this paper proposes a curved waveguide-enabled pinching-antenna system (C-PAS), where the waveguide is placed along the build...

Conventional line-shaped pinching-antenna systems (PASS) provide a flexible antenna architecture for highfrequency communications, but their one-dimensional deployment limits the spatial degrees of freedom available for multiuser beamforming. This paper investigates a multiuser downlink system enabled by two-dimensiona...

An uplink pinching-antenna system (PASS) is considered, where a segmented dielectric waveguide is employed to serve multiple users and one pinching antenna (PA) is activated on each segment. Extensive waveguide deployment reduces user-to-PA path loss but also creates differential propagation delays among the PA-assiste...
