Abstract
Introduction Chroogomphus rutilus (CR) is an edible mushroom valued for its bioactive polysaccharides and flavonoids. It possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties; however, whether it can confer protection against the onset of ulcerative colitis (UC) remains unclear. Methods Initial network pharmacology analysis was performed to evaluate the potential influence of the flavonoid fraction of CR (CRF) on UC-related targets involved in inflammatory signaling and oxidative stress. The effects of CRF pretreatment were subsequently investigated in a mouse model of dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis. Mice received oral CRF pretreatment at doses of 100 or 400 mg/kg, followed by induction of acute colitis with 3% DSS. Results CRF pretreatment suppressed colonic proinflammatory cytokine expression and preserved antioxidant defense. 16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed that CRF modulated the gut microbiota composition by suppressing potentially harmful bacteria, such as Bacteroides and Erysipelatoclostridium, and enriching beneficial genera including Bifidobacterium, Dubosiella, and Faecalibaculum. Discussion These correlative findings suggest that CRF pretreatment attenuates DSS-induced colitis, and that this attenuation is accompanied by reduced inflammation, alleviated oxidative stress, and microbiota remodeling. The data support the hypothesis that CRF acts through multi-target preventive effects, highlighting its potential as a candidate functional food ingredient for further development.
Pyracantha fortuneana (Maxim.) H.L.Li fruit is a bioactive dietary resource, yet its effects on intestinal inflammation and the associated microbial, metabolic, and host responses remain poorly understood. This study characterized P. fortuneana fruit extract (PFE) and evaluated its protective effects in a dextran sodiu...

Overall, PP relieves UC by regulating gut microecology, host metabolism and the AGE-RAGE pathway, which supports the translational potential of natural polyphenols for inflammatory bowel disease treatment as a gut microecological modulator.

BACKGROUND
Camellia oleifera is a perennial tree widely cultivated in southern China. Its seed oil has traditionally been used as an edible oil and has been regarded in folk medicine as beneficial for gastrointestinal disorders and inflammatory conditions. Despite its long history of use, the scientific basis for the p...

Hedysarum polysaccharide (HPS), the major bioactive constituent of Radix Hedysari, possesses anti-inflammatory activity; however, few studies have explored its application for ulcerative colitis (UC). In this study, HPS-80 was extracted using combined complex-enzyme hydrolysis and ultrasonication. We further evaluated...

Background Gegen Qinlian Decoction (GQD) is used to treat intestinal disorders, but its mechanism in ulcerative colitis (UC) induced by combined high-fat diet (HFD) and dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) exposure remains unclear. Methods A UC mouse model was induced by HFD plus DSS. GQD constituents were identified by UPLC–M...

Prunella vulgaris polysaccharide (PVP) possesses multiple bioactivities, yet its role in ulcerative colitis (UC) remains undefined. In this study, the effects of PVP were examined in mice with a DSS-induced colitis. In this colitis model, PVP treatment markedly reduced colonic inflammation and maintained the tight ju...
