ArlR regulates environmental stress tolerance and biofilm formation in foodborne Staphylococcusaureus

It is demonstrated that deletion of arlR significantly reduces the tolerance of the foodborne strain RMSA49 to acetic acid, desiccation, whereas its responses to temperature and osmotic stress not affected, and that the arlR mutant also exhibits significantly enhanced biofilm formation.

Loss of CsrA in Acinetobacter baumannii leads to lethal dysregulation of alanine metabolism

Significance In the pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii, the posttranscriptional regulator CsrA is required for growth under certain environmental conditions, including rich growth media and infection-relevant conditions like human serum. However, CsrA is dispensable for A. baumannii grown under nutrient limited condition...

The OxyR-Responsive TacAT Module Promotes Oxidative Stress Adaptation and In Vivo Fitness in K. pneumoniae

During infection, Klebsiella pneumoniae must withstand host-derived oxidative stress not only by detoxifying reactive oxygen species (ROS) but also by repairing oxidative damage to cellular physiology. How these detoxification and stress-adaptive responses are coordinated remains unclear. Here, we identify a plasmid-en...

Regulatory roles of the LysR-type transcriptional regulator GltC in metabolism, stress tolerance, and virulence of Listeria monocytogenes

GltC contributes to the coordination of nitrogen metabolism, oxidative stress adaptation, and bacterial fitness during L. monocytogenes infection, which is critical for identifying new strategies to limit bacterial survival in the host.

Iron as a principal mediator of dysbiosis prevention in the phyllosphere

Multicellular organisms require a correct microbiota composition for optimal health and fitness. Dysbiosis could lead to serious health consequences in humans and plants, and is pervasive during pathogen infections across systems. A recent study shows that carbon source availability plays a role in bacterial community...

A Zur-dependent regulatory RNA involved in maintaining zinc homeostasis in Staphylococcus aureus

Abstract Small regulatory RNAs (sRNAs) are key drivers of bacterial adaptation to environmental fluctuations, including iron and manganese restriction imposed by the host. This study explored the repertoire of sRNAs produced by the human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus in response to metal limitation. Two sRNAs were ide...
