A novel Acoustically Grounded Cost Learning (AGCL) framework is proposed to transform the static, audio-agnostic visual-text priors into dynamic, audio-grounded cost representations and significantly outperforms previous state-of-the-art approaches, particularly on unseen categories.

Abstract

Open-Vocabulary Audio-Visual Semantic Segmentation (OV-AVSS) aims to perform pixel-level segmentation of sound-emitting objects from an open set of categories. The previous method relies on a class-agnostic foreground definition, which groups semantically diverse objects into a heterogeneous positive set, causing the model to learn unstable sounding patterns and produce unreliable proposals. To address this, we reformulate the objective to be category-specific and propose a novel Acoustically Grounded Cost Learning (AGCL) framework to transform the static, audio-agnostic visual-text priors into dynamic, audio-grounded cost representations. For intra-category soundingness discovery, we devise Audio-Modulated Cost Generation (AMCG) and Audio-Guided Temporal Aggregation (AGTA) modules to enable both frame-level sounding region highlighting and video-level temporal refinement with a low-intrusive audio injection mechanism. For inter-category distractor discrimination, we introduce a Synergistic Distractor Mining (SDM) strategy, which selectively penalizes acoustically and semantically confusing negative categories to learn more discriminative decision boundaries. Extensive experiments on the AVSBench-OV dataset demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms previous state-of-the-art approaches, particularly on unseen categories. Binaural Audio-Visual Instance Segmentation

Audio-visual segmentation (AVS) aims to segment sounding objects at the pixel level by integrating auditory and visual cues. However, existing methods are predominantly developed under the monaural setting and primarily rely on cross-modal semantic correspondence, which limits their ability to distinguish visually simi...

Open-Vocabulary Audio-Visual Event Localization via Complex-Valued Fusion

Open-Vocabulary Audio-Visual Event Localization (OV-AVEL) labels each video segment with an event class, including classes that were never seen during training. The dominant pipeline uses a frozen multimodal foundation model (e.g. ImageBind) to embed the visual frame, the audio mel-spectrogram, and each candidate class...

Shift-Aware Identity-Guided Latent Refinement for Referring Audio--Visual Segmentation

Referring Audio--Visual Segmentation (Ref-AVS) is an emergent multimodal task requiring the precise identification and segmentation of a specific object based on a natural language expression grounded in both visual and auditory cues. Unlike traditional AVS, which segments generic sound sources, or referring video obje...

TiTok: Audio-Visual LLM for Multi-Segment Temporal Grounding

TiTok is presented, an audio-visual large language model (AV-LLM) that localizes an arbitrary number of temporal event segments for each query, and the Time Token Interleaving (TTI) method is introduced, which explicitly injects special time tokens into the audio-visual stream to align input-side temporal perception wi...

TV-AudioRemover: Joint Text-Visual Guided Sound Removal with Multi-Task Hard-Mixture Curriculum

Visual object removal can eliminate a target from video frames, yet its acoustic trace persists in the soundtrack, causing obvious audio-visual inconsistency. Existing video inpainting models operate solely on pixels, while audio editing models, especially for the sound removal task, are typically driven by text and th...
