THE CONTRIBUTION OF EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE EDUCATION SYSTEM
The contribution of educational philosophy to the development of the education system has been pivotal and central. Education is not merely the transmission of knowledge but a process of holistic human development. It encompasses the intellectual, moral, social, emotional, and spiritual growth of an individual—growth that is possible only when grounded in a philosophical perspective. Educational philosophy provides the foundation that shapes the direction, objectives, curriculum, teaching methodology, teacher-student relationship, and value system of education. It clarifies the "why," "for whom," "what," and "how" of education, as well as the expected outcomes. Various educational philosophies—such as Idealism, Realism, Pragmatism, Humanism, and Reconstructionism—have influenced the education system according to their respective viewpoints. Idealism emphasized knowledge, the soul, morality, and character building, whereas Realism highlighted the importance of objective knowledge, experience, and sensory perception. Pragmatism linked education to real life, emphasizing experience and problem-solving-based learning, while Humanism associated education with human dignity, self-development, coexistence, and compassion.
