This chapter speculates that physical in trans interactions could be involved in paramutation as well, and potential mechanisms will be discussed in light of recent data obtained for the b1 locus.
FAIRE analysis on these mutants suggests that the occurrence of physical interactions appears not dependent on a particular chromatin state, and a B-I -like multi-loop structure mediates high b1 expression.
The results uncover an intricate interplay between active and silent epigenetic features present at the b1 locus in a mop1 background, resulting in elevated expression of B’, concluding that MOP1 is essential to maintain the B’ silent chromatin state.
