ICO: Enhancing Semantic-Shift Jailbreaks via Iterative Context Optimization

Foundation models have achieved remarkable success across diverse tasks, but they remain vulnerable. To investigate such vulnerabilities, semantic-shift jailbreaks have recently emerged as a promising attack paradigm. They bypass explicit safety mechanisms by replacing harmful terms in original harmful questions with benign alternatives and leveraging contextual information to induce the target model to reinterpret these alternatives as their corresponding harmful concepts. However, existing semantic-shift jailbreaks often achieve limited effectiveness. In this work, we reveal that this limitation arises from overlooking the semantic-shift capability of contexts. Through systematic analysis, we find that contexts exhibit substantially different abilities in inducing semantic shifts: contexts with stronger semantic-shift capabilities are more likely to guide models toward recovering harmful meanings and achieving successful jailbreaks. Based on this finding, we systematically identify and distill the characteristics of effective contexts and propose a black-box context-aware semantic-shift jailbreak framework with Iterative Context Optimization (ICO). In each iteration, ICO leverages these characteristics and feedback from the target model to optimize contexts. Extensive experiments on three datasets and eight target foundation models demonstrate that ICO consistently outperforms eight state-of-the-art baselines, achieving an average attack success rate of 74.6%.

Uncovering and Mitigating Positional Blind Spots in Vision-Language-Action Models

Recent Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models achieve promising performance in robotic manipulation, typically measured by success rates aggregated over predefined object configurations, an evaluation that implicitly assumes spatially uniform competence across the workspace. However, this assumption does not hold: even with the instruction and every other scene factor held fixed, merely relocating a task-irrelevant distractor can sharply raise the failure probability within localized, spatially coherent regions, which we term Positional Blind Spots (PBS). In this paper, we propose a two-stage black-box framework to uncover and mitigate PBS. During the uncovering stage, we grid the workspace and apply a one-sided log-likelihood-ratio test to localize PBS cells with significantly elevated risk. During the mitigation stage, we fine-tune the policy via LoRA on demonstrations collected from these PBS regions, improving competence there while largely preserving performance across the rest of the workspace. We evaluate our framework on five state-of-the-art VLA policies across two benchmarks, and find that PBS are pervasive and spatially concentrated in all of them, with failure rates up to 0.58. Our search strategy achieves an average F1-score of 0.678, outperforming random search and adaptive sampling baselines by 0.268 and 0.178, respectively. Guided by the discovered regions, targeted fine-tuning reduces the overall failure rate by 40.00%--85.19%.

TempJail: Temporal Jailbreak Attack against Large Vision-Language Models via Subtitle Scheduling

Large vision-language models (LVLMs) have achieved remarkable progress in video understanding and reasoning. Despite extensive studies on text- and image-based jailbreaks, video jailbreaks against LVLMs remain largely unexplored. Existing video jailbreak methods mainly manipulate textual content embedded in videos, while overlooking how such information is organized over time. Our analysis reveals that jailbreak effectiveness depends not only on the semantics of textual information but also on its temporal presentation, including duration and timing-slot allocation. Motivated by this finding, we use subtitles, which are common in real-world videos and allow semantic content to be presented under precise temporal control without appearing visually intrusive, as a natural attack medium. Based on this insight, we propose TempJail, a black-box video-based jailbreak framework that constructs query-aligned dialogue-style subtitle sequences and optimizes their temporal scheduling to exploit temporal vulnerabilities in LVLMs and elicit responses that satisfy the harmful intent of the source query. Extensive experiments on four representative LVLMs and two datasets demonstrate that TempJail achieves the highest attack success rate across all evaluated model--dataset settings, outperforming the strongest baseline by 53 and 18 percentage points in dataset-averaged ASR on GPT-5 and Gemini 3.5-Flash, respectively.

Red Teaming LLMs via Linguistic-Aware Fuzzing

Lingfuzz is a linguistic-aware fuzzing framework for continuing red teaming LLMs that enables generating diverse malicious instructions due to the unlimited space of lexical and syntactic choices, while having a continued testing capability by iteratively mutating the mutants.
