Abstract
This study addresses the challenges and opportunities arising from the use of digital technologies in the literacy process, taking into account the educational transformations resulting from the integration of technological resources into the school environment. The overall objective is to analyze the main challenges and opportunities associated with the use of digital technologies in literacy, identifying their contributions to the development of reading and writing and the factors that limit their integration into pedagogical practices. This is a bibliographic study with a qualitative approach and descriptive nature. It has been shown that tools such as educational games, apps, digital platforms, videos, multimedia resources, and interactive environments increase learning opportunities, encourage student participation, and provide diverse experiences in the process of mastering reading and writing. However, the incorporation of these technologies also presents challenges related to unequal access to devices and the internet, the infrastructure of educational institutions, the need for ongoing teacher training, and the selection of resources appropriate to pedagogical objectives; planning, pedagogical intentionality, and teacher mediation are indispensable. It can be concluded that digital technologies, when used in a planned manner and aligned with the needs of literacy learners, serve as resources that complement traditional practices, fostering a more dynamic, participatory, and inclusive form of literacy that is compatible with contemporary demands.
The difficulties faced by teachers in incorporating new technologies into the curriculum are discussed, analyzing the differences between digital natives and immigrants, the generational gap among educators, and the importance of continuing professional development are addressed.
