Assessment of Inventory Management Factors Affecting Construction Project Delivery in Imo State, Nigeria

Abstract
This study examined the assessment of inventory
management factors affecting construction project
delivery in Imo state, Nigeria. Adopting a descriptive
survey research design. The study population
comprised 800 construction professionals, including
architects, estate surveyors and valuers, site engineers,
materials purchasers, construction/project managers,
and contractors. Using the Taro Yamane formula, a
sample size of 267 respondents was determined through
judgmental sampling, while 243 valid questionnaires
representing a 91% response rate were retrieved and
analyzed. Data were collected through structured
questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics
and multiple regression analysis with the aid of SPSS
version 23.
The findings revealed that theft and vandalization (β = -
0.177, p < 0.001), high carrying cost (β = -0.148, p =
0.020), insecurity (β = -0.169, p < 0.001), shortage of
materials (β = -0.137, p = 0.020), and inability to
determine the appropriate EOQ (β = -0.152, p = 0.002)
had significant negative effects on construction project
delivery. However, the use of traditional materials
management methods (β = -0.010, p = 0.876) was not
statistically significant. The regression model showed a
strong relationship between inventory management
factors and project delivery (R = 0.925), with the
identified variables explaining approximately 85% of
the variation in construction project delivery (R² =
0.850). The overall regression model was statistically
significant (F = 8.895, p = 0.002), confirming the
collective influence of inventory management practices
on project delivery.
The study concluded that effective inventory
management is critical to achieving successful
construction project delivery, with. Recommendation to
strengthen site security to minimize theft and
vandalization, adopting modern inventory management
systems and Materials Requirement Planning (MRP),
implementing Economic Order Quantity (EOQ)
techniques, engaging inventory management
professionals, and improving materials planning to
reduce carrying costs, prevent material shortages, and
enhance project performance.
The construction firms are plague with projects, cost overrun, fall in quality, and operational inefficiency. Aa a result, this study examined the relationship between project management strategies and operational efficiency of construction firms in South-South, Nigeria. The study was built on systems theory, resource-based view theory and project management theory. The study adopted the cross-sectional research design and followed the positivism approach. The population of the study stemmed from 792 employees selected from eight construction companies. Using the Taro Yemane formula, the sample size was determined as 266. The simple random sampling technique was used. Structured questionnaires were used to collect the primary data. Descriptive statistics and Spearman rank correlation coefficient were used as methods of data analysis, which was carried out with the help of SPSS version 28 at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that operational efficiency was positively and significantly related with project planning (r = 0.346, p < 0.05), project cost management (r = 0.563, p < 0.05), project risk management (r = 0.436, p < 0.05), project time management (r = 0.355, p < 0.05), and project quality management (r = 0.720, p < 0.05). The study concluded that the effective project management strategies were very effective in the operational efficiency of construction firms in South-South, Nigeria. The study recommended for resilient planning, cost control, risk management and scheduling and institutionalization of quality assurance systems. The study contributed to knowledge as it has generated empirical evidence of the relationship between project management strategies and operational efficiency of construction firms in South-South Nigeria.

Project selection plays a crucial role in ensuring that every decision aligns with the company’s objectives and resources. However, the project selection process in some companies remains suboptimal due to weak risk assessment, inadequate utilization of objective data, and limited integration of decision support systems. This study aims to identify the factors influencing project selection in construction projects and analyze the relationship between these factors and company profitability in the construction sector. This study uses a quantitative approach. Primary data collection was conducted by distributing a 5-point Likert-scale questionnaire to respondents who are practitioners in the construction sector in Indonesia. These data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method with the use of SmartPLS software. From the results of SmartPLS processing, the relationships between variables X and Y are as follows: (X2) Technology has an influence of 45.4%, (X1) Finance has an influence of 43.4%, and (X3) Marketing has an influence of 12.3%. These findings suggest that these criteria have been effectively implemented and have a positive impact on enhancing commercial criteria, specifically in terms of company profitability in construction projects. Meanwhile, the legal criterion (X4) had a negative influence of 7.3%. This finding suggests that this criterion continues to have a negative impact or exhibits a downward trend in its application for improving commercial criteria. A deeper understanding of these factors and their interactions can help companies develop more effective project selection strategies, thereby improving the quality and efficiency of the Indonesian construction industry.

Limited knowledge and awareness on green procurement policies among procurement officers, end users, and suppliers constitute obstacles to its effective implementation. The study investigates the relationship between product life cycle monitoring and real- time data sharing in Nigerian Maritime University. The total population of the study comprised of 1,252 employees, and sample size was determined using taro Yamane formula and calculated as 303. The study employed a descriptive survey research design, and a stratified random sampling technique in the distribution of the survey to ensure optimum allocation of survey to each stratum. The study population includes: procurement officers, internal auditors, logistics managers, administrative staff, and heads of departments. Out of 303 questionnaires distributed only 281 were returned and utilized while the remaining 22 were not returned and utilized for the study. Statistical tools such as descriptive, inferential statistics, and linear regression were used to analyze the hypotheses at 5 % significant level. The findings showed that the combined use of life cycle assessment and real-time visibility has a significant impact on better organizational and environmental performance. The study recommend that university management should organize regular training programmes to improve skill development of lecturers, researchers, technical staff, and students on LCA software (e.g., SimaPro, OpenLCA, GaBi) and real-time visibility technologies.

This study assessed the determinants of effective Force Account implementation in public road construction projects in Tanzania. The study adopted a cross-sectional research design whereas primary data were collected through structured questionnaires from 120 respondents working on Force Account road construction projects in Ilala, Temeke, and Kinondoni districts of Dar es Salaam. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, reliability and validity tests, correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression based on the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) estimation technique. The findings revealed that all four principal determinants significantly and positively influenced Effective Force Account Implementation, with Procurement and Project Management Practices exerting the strongest effect (β = 0.326, p < 0.001), followed by Institutional Capacity (β = 0.267, p < 0.001), Financial Capacity (β = 0.214, p < 0.001), and Resource Availability (β = 0.186, p = 0.002). Regarding the control variables, different levels of working experience, education and job position exhibited significantly higher perceptions of Effective Force Account Implementation than their respective reference categories, while the remaining control variables were not statistically significant. The study recommends strengthening institutional and technical capacity, ensuring timely financing of projects, improving procurement planning and supply chain coordination, investing in construction equipment and skilled personnel, and enhancing monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to improve the efficiency, quality, and sustainability of Force Account road construction projects in Tanzania.

This study examined the impact of BIM on construction project performance by assessing awareness, adoption, perceived benefits, and barriers to implementation among construction professionals. A mixed-methods research design was employed, involving a questionnaire survey of 529 construction professionals across in AMAC, Abuja, Nigeria. A total of 515 valid responses were analysed, representing a 97.4% response rate, while qualitative insights were obtained through interviews with 15 BIM experts. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics, and qualitative data were subjected to thematic analysis. The findings revealed a moderately high level of BIM awareness (overall mean = 3.39), with awareness of the BIM concept recording the highest mean score (3.54). BIM adoption was highest for design visualization and quantity take-off, while advanced applications such as 4D scheduling and facility management remained limited. Respondents agreed that BIM positively influences project performance (overall mean = 3.44), particularly in design quality (3.55) and collaboration (3.47). The principal barriers were the absence of a national BIM policy (3.88), inadequate technical skills (3.78), and high software costs (3.75). The study concludes that strengthening policy support, professional capacity, and organizational investment is essential for accelerating BIM adoption and improving construction project performance in Nigeria.

The study investigates the effect of logistics management on customer satisfaction of Nigeria
Bottling Company products in Anambra State. Specifically, the study seeks to determine the effect
of transportation management, inventory management information flow management on customer
satisfaction of Nigeria Bottling Company products in Anambra State. Relevant literature was
review and the study was anchored on theory of supply chain management. This study adopted
survey research design. The population of study is made up of three hundred and eighty-six (386)
logistic firms in Anambra State. Due to the manageable size of the population, the entire
population was use as the sample size for the study. Therefore, sample size is three hundred and
eighty-six (386) logistic firms in Anambra State. The researcher makes use of primary and
secondary data. Questionnaire was used as the instrument of data collection. The researcher made
use face and content validity in this research work. The study employ Cronbach Alpha to verify
the internal consistency. Simple percentage was use in answer the research questions while
multiple regression analysis in testing research hypotheses at 0.5 level of significant. From the
analysis it was discover that transportation management has a significant effect on customer
satisfaction; inventory management has a significant influence on consumer's customer
satisfaction and information flow management has a significant effect on customer satisfaction of
Nigeria Bottling Company products in Anambra State. The study concluded that logistics
management had a significant positive effect on customer satisfaction of Nigeria Bottling
Company products in Anambra State. The study recommended that logistics managers should try
as much as possible to maximize space and enhance on time delivery to avoid delay to the
distribution of products in order to meet customers demand through proper means of
transportation. Inventory management should be enhanced as it will help to improve productivity
within the organization. It is expedient for the managers of firms to maintain integrated
Information systems with key partners in the logistics and ensure that information flows between
inventory, purchasing, marketing, and distribution divisions are emphasized to facilitate
operational efficiency and achieve a competitive edge in the market.
