Research on English Translation Strategies of Agricultural Products in Guangdong Province Under Communicative Translation Theory

Against the backdrop of deepening cross-cultural communication within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the quality of English translations of Guangdong’s agricultural products directly shapes their international communication influence and market competitiveness. Guided by Communicative Translation Theory, this paper targets prominent flaws prevailing in current English translations of agricultural products, namely semantic deviation, non-standard terminology and writing formats, insufficient cultural adaptation, and the absence of category identifiers. It puts forward optimized translation strategies including explicit rendering of generic terms, optimized free translation, cultural connotation compensation, and standardized transliteration. This research aims to achieve the delivery of accurate product information and ensure alignment with the cognitive conventions of target‑language audiences, so as to realize effective cross‑cultural communication. It is hoped that it can provide practical reference for the international promotion of distinctive agricultural products in Guangdong Province, and expands empirical studies concerning the English translation of agricultural products.

Research on Hetero-Cultural Translation Strategies in the Spanish Version of The Three-Body Problem from the Perspective of Cultural Translation Theory

Literary translation involves more than linguistic conversion; it also entails the reconstruction and re-encoding of cultural meanings. From the perspective of cultural translation theory, this study takes Liu Cixin’s original Chinese novel The Three-Body Problem and its Spanish translation El problema de los tres cuerpos by Javier Altayó as the objects of analysis. Drawing on Nida’s framework of cultural classification, culturally embedded elements in the source text are grouped into five categories: ecological, material, social, religious-philosophical, and linguistic. Through a comparative reading of the Chinese and Spanish versions, the paper examines the translator’s shifting strategies among foreignization, domestication, and cultural negotiation. The analysis suggests that the translation does not rely on a single or fixed strategy. When dealing with culture-specific elements that carry strong historical or regional specificity, the translator is more likely to preserve foreignness through transliteration, literal translation, or brief explanatory additions. In contrast, for expressions that may hinder comprehension or lead to cultural misinterpretation, freer rendering, generalization, or contextual adjustment tend to be adopted in order to reduce the cognitive burden on target readers. Overall, the Spanish translation of The Three-Body Problem reveals a flexible negotiation process, in which cultural difference is retained to varying degrees while comprehension is facilitated and narrative flow is maintained. This case offers a useful reference for the Spanish dissemination of Chinese science fiction and more broadly for the cross-cultural transmission of heterogenous cultural elements.

English Translation Strategies for Culture-Loaded Words in China Daily’s 24 Solar Terms Column: A Translation Compensation Perspective

In the current context of accelerating the spread of Chinese traditional culture, the translation of culture-loaded terms has become a key issue in the study of translation and intercultural communication. Based on the analysis framework of translation compensation theory, this study takes the column of “24 Solar Terms” in China Daily as the corpus, and systematically explores the translation methods of culture-loaded words in this column. According to the four categories of ecology, material, society and language, this study examines how translators compensate for cultural loss and information loss in translation. The results show that the translator widely adopts compensation techniques such as free translation, amplification, transliteration and annotation, and logical explicitation, which effectively improves the understanding smoothness and text acceptance of the target readers while maintaining the cultural connotation of the source language. These strategies not only ensure the faithful transmission of cultural information, but also effectively promote the overseas dissemination of Chinese excellent traditional culture. It is expected that the research results can provide useful reference for the Chinese-English translation practice of culture-loaded words in similar publicity texts in the future.

Intangible Cultural Heritage from the Perspective of Skopos Theory: A Case Study of the Official Website of China's Intangible Cultural Heritage

Against the backdrop of globalization, the safeguarding and dissemination of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) have become increasingly important. As a key window for showcasing China's ICH resources, the English translation of the official China ICH website is of considerable significance. This study examines the English translation practices of the official China ICH website from the perspective of Skopos Theory, analyzing challenges including insufficient translation resources, difficulties in translating culture-loaded terms, and disparities in linguistic style and cultural background. It proposes countermeasures such as establishing professional translation teams, building specialized corpora, enhancing research on culture-loaded terms with translational innovation, and strengthening cultural background explanations. Through detailed case studies, the paper demonstrates the application of the Skopos Rule, Coherence Rule, and Fidelity Rule in website translation, aiming to provide new insights for ICH translation theory and practice and to promote the international dissemination of Chinese ICH culture.

A Study on the English Translation Strategies of Geographical Indication Agricultural Products in Anhui Province from the Perspective of Skopos Theory

Under the background of global trade and cultural integration, geographical indication agricultural products in Anhui Province are important regional cultural symbols and economic resources. However, there are some problems in the current English translation work, such as inconsistent translation, lack of cultural connotation and poor communication effect, which hinder its international recognition and market expansion. Under the guidance of the three principles of skopos theory, coherence and fidelity, this study systematically investigates the current situation of translation by using the methods of text analysis and case comparison. Its purpose is to explore how to formulate corresponding translation methods according to different communicative purposes (for example, external publicity, cultural tourism, or sale); how to strike a balance between the correctness of culture and the acceptability of the audience; and how to help 'Huizhou culture going out' through translation practice. This study found that strategies should be flexibly combined according to specific goals: for words with cultural significance, the method of 'literal translation + annotation' can be used to retain their characteristics; for functional descriptions, adaptive changes must be made to match the cognitive habits of the target market. Therefore, the conclusion shows that the communicative function and communication effect of the translation can be greatly promoted by taking the purpose orientation as the orientation, the acceptability of the audience as the premise and the cultural authenticity as the core. This study provides a strategic reference for the English translation of geographical indication products in Anhui Province, so as to provide an application path based on Skopos Theory for the cross-cultural communication of Chinese local characteristic products.
