A comprehensive and up-to-date review of the current knowledge in circRNAs is provided, as well as to discuss the potential of circRNAs as biomarkers for NSCLC detection and assessment, alongside the limitations associated with their clinical applications.

Abstract

Simple Summary Circular RNAs (circRNAs) represent a novel and important class of endogenous, mainly non-coding RNAs, which result from pre-mRNA back-splicing. CircRNAs are now well-recognized as critical contributors to various cancer cell hallmarks in different types of cancer, including lung cancer. However, their involvement in the reshaping of the tumor microenvironment, more particularly the tumor immune microenvironment, and the development of resistance to therapies remains less explored, notably in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Here, we aim to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date review of the current knowledge in this still-emerging research field, as well as to discuss the potential of circRNAs as biomarkers for NSCLC detection and assessment, alongside the limitations associated with their clinical applications.

Biological roles and clinical potential of piRNAs in cancer: Insights into glioblastoma

Non-coding RNAs serve as key regulators of gene expression at both the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. Among them, piRNAs, a class of small non-coding RNAs, have emerged as significant mediators in cancer biology. PIWI proteins, members of the Argonaute family highly expressed in germline cells, intera...

Non-coding RNAs in tumor-educated platelets: emerging roles in cancer progression, biomarker discovery, and therapeutic targeting

Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) in tumor-educated platelets (TEPs) play an important role in cancer progression. Tumor cells can “educate” platelets, thereby enabling them to participate in multiple stages of tumor development and progression. The ncRNAs carried by TEPs, including microRNAs (miRNAs), circular RNAs (circRNAs),...
