Abstract
Language is the primary instrument for constructing and transmitting culture, values, and religious teachings, particularly the Arabic language. In the process of linguistic assimilation, Arabic loanwords undergo semantic changes. Therefore, this study examines Arabic loanwords in the Indonesian language as found in Surah Al-Baqarah verses 142–200. A qualitative approach is employed, utilizing a content analysis model. Data were collected through document analysis and linguistic examination of the text of Surah Al-Baqarah (verses 142–200). Data analysis is grounded in the Semantic Change Theory proposed by Stephen Ullmann. The findings reveal that there are 65 Arabic loanwords from the Qur’an that have undergone semantic changes in Indonesian. These changes fall into five categories: specialization (narrowing of meaning), generalization (broadening of meaning), pure borrowing, radical change, and a combination of narrowing and broadening. The main finding indicates that specialization is the most dominant type of semantic change, accounting for approximately 60% of the total data.
The national language for a postcolonial state is not merely an instrument of administrative communication, but rather an ideological project that cements national identity amidst ethnolinguistic plurality. This study aims to analyze the nature of Indonesian as a system of symbols and collective identity, reconstruct its historical dynamics from the Old Malay era to its unification as a language, and explore contemporary sociolinguistic challenges in the era of globalization and digitalization. Using a qualitative approach through library research, this article integrates historical analysis with philosophical-conceptual studies to dissect various language policy documents and related literature. The results show that the transformation of Malay into Indonesian is a manifestation of the success of egalitarian and inclusive sociolinguistic engineering. The post-independence standardization process through corpus codification (such as PUEBI/EYD) and the affirmation of the linguistic market has proven effective in building national integration. However, in the contemporary era, the hegemony of this standard language faces the challenge of linguistic hybridity due to the rise of code-switching and informal digital language variations on social media. This study concludes that strengthening the identity of the Indonesian language in the future requires a policy reorientation: shifting from a rigid top-down grammatical model to a bottom-up approach that adapts to modern linguistic ecology without sacrificing its function as a unifying force for the nation.

The translation of Arabic religious sermons into Indonesian often involves shifts in meaning and structure due to differences in linguistic, grammatical, and cultural systems between the two languages. This study examines meaning shifts in the Indonesian translation of the sermon Waṣāyā Nāfiʿah li-Ightinām Shahri al-Khayrāt by Sheikh Fayṣal Al-Ghazzāwī, translated by Iqbal Kadir. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research compares the Arabic source text and its Indonesian target text to identify types of translation shifts and to evaluate their communicative effect. Data are collected through close reading and note-taking of parallel sermon texts from online sources, then analyzed contrastively. The findings reveal the occurrence of structure shifts, class shifts, unit shifts, and intra-system shifts that arise from differences in grammatical systems, lexical choices, and idiomatic tendencies between Arabic and Indonesian. These shifts are closely related to meaning-based translation strategies that balance form-focused rendering in doctrinal formulas with more flexible rendering in persuasive and rhetorical passages. The study concludes that such shifts are not translation errors but deliberate linguistic and communicative strategies to preserve the clarity, spiritual impact, and cultural relevance of religious messages for Indonesian readers.
This study employs a philological approach to identify Islamic philanthropic values within the Manusia Jati (palm-leaf) manuscript. The research data consists of linguistic units reflecting these Islamic philanthropic values. The primary source is the Manusia Jati manuscript, which was transliterated and translated into Indonesian by the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Museum team in 2005. Data collection was conducted using reading and note-taking techniques. The researcher utilized triangulation—combining various theories and sources—to ensure the reliability of the data. The data analysis process involved stages of identification, classification, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the Manusia Jati manuscript contains Islamic philanthropic values, specifically: justice (maintaining balance within the universe); responsibility (the courage to bear risks and uphold commitment); care (empathy toward the universe); and sustainability (prioritizing the continuity of the environment and society).

The relationship between global languages and Islamic thought is considered to have two opposite roles. Where Arabic is prioritized because it is the purest and most valid language to study Islamic science. While English is considered a tool to spread western influence or dominance. This perspective causes differences in various educational contexts in Muslim regions, including Indonesia. So that it makes scientific ideas and innovations from within the country difficult to be recognized and disseminated to the world level. This research examines how Islamic principles such as Shumuliyyah (universality) and Maqashid al-Shariah change the perspective so that foreign languages are not considered a religious threat, but rather as a means by which academics function to transmit knowledge. This study uses a qualitative literature research design on 26 reference sources, including the Qur'an, literature studies, classical books, which are analyzed through qualitative thematic analysis, The results of the research synthesis show that Arabic remains the most legitimate main language for understanding revelation (Religion). However, English is very important as a tool for disseminating knowledge, building academic networks, and engaging in intercultural dialogue. Based on the purpose of Islamic law (Maqashid Sharia), mastering international languages actually helps to maintain reason (hifz al-'aql) and spread religion (hifz al-din) at the world level. In theory, this study provides a religious perspective to get out of the extreme choice of self-isolation or too westernization in language rules. Practically, this research helps Islamic campuses see mastery of foreign languages as an important skill, not just being forced to assimilate into Western culture.

The main problem faced is the tendency for digital technology to be used instrumentally and partially, with a greater emphasis on improving linguistic skills, while the role of Arabic as an epistemological medium for understanding Islamic teachings from their original sources has not been optimally utilized. This research employs a library research method, which is conceptual-theoretical in nature, utilizing a critical analysis approach and theoretical synthesis. Data is analyzed thru content analysis techniques and thematic analysis of various relevant scientific literature. The study results indicate that digital technology-based Arabic language learning has strategic potential in addressing the challenges of Islamic education in the global digital era, particularly in expanding access to Arabic-language Islamic sources, deepening understanding of religious texts, and developing students' digital critical literacy. The implications of this learning are multidimensional, encompassing cognitive, affective, and ethical aspects, which can only be optimally realized if learning is designed integratively by linking linguistic competence, contextual understanding of Islamic texts, and digital critical literacy into a single pedagogical unit. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of language shift and maintenance in multilingual societies as represented through novels set in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. The method used is descriptive qualitative with the primary source of information being the novel text. Data collection was carried out through systematic text observation, while data analysis used data reduction, data presentation, data verification, as well as content analysis, discourse analysis, and interpretation analysis. The results show that the sharpest language shift occurs in the family, public, and digital and urban domains. Six main factors causing the shift include economic pressure, formal education, mixed marriages, urbanization, mass media, and shame in speaking regional languages. Five maintenance strategies found are transmission through traditional rituals, the role of traditional elders, the awakening of the younger generation's awareness, digital technology, and the creation of literary and artistic works in regional languages. The contributions of this study include the concept of Language Narrative Vitality, the Triangulation Theory of Literary Vitality, and the philosophy of To Tell a Story is to Survive, which emphasizes that a language survives because it continues to be told. Practically, this study provides guidance for families, schools, policymakers, indigenous communities, and academics in efforts to revitalize regional languages.
