Abstract

Navigating generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in higher education is a challenge for instructors, prompting calls for disciplinary guidance. This article connects current physics education research on GenAI with the Effective Practices for Physics Programs Guide, offering practical strategies for higher ed instructors. The potential integration of GenAI into existing research-based instructional strategies can support students in active learning and problem solving and aid instructors in providing feedback, developing instructional materials, and balancing GenAI's potential and pitfalls.

Empowering future physics teachers to cultivate critical thinking

Critical thinking (CT) is essential in physics education, yet teacher education often lacks effective preparation. This exploratory study, based on Halpern’s CT framework, behavioural theories, and competency framework for critical thinking in physics education examines the challenges and attitudes of 28 German prospec...

Harnessing Generative UI for Education: Tailored Learning Interactives

It is well established that students learn best through active engagement, particularly via interactive experiences tied to real-world concepts. Creating such experiences, however, typically requires labor-intensive design, costly development, and continuous teacher guidance to achieve measurably effective outcomes. Re...
