Abstract
Focusing on the integration of AI-powered tools in EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teacher preparation, this mixed-methods study investigated the impact of these tools on the motivation, engagement, and self-efficacy of 150 teacher candidates. The researchers gathered quantitative data from a survey and qualitative data through in-depth interviews with 10 participants. The results revealed a strong interconnection between motivation, engagement, and self-efficacy. The study also showed that the use of AI tools was instrumental in enhancing students’ self-efficacy. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the factors that influence learner motivation. Key factors associated with teaching confidence included the combination of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and the use of AI tools. Participants generally perceived AI tools as effective in providing timely feedback and creating interactive exercises that supported their confidence and engagement. However, they also emphasized that hands-on classroom experience remains necessary for becoming fully prepared teachers.
