TRANSFORMATION OF THE METHODOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK FOR ASSESSING THE COMPETITIVENESS OF BUSINESS ENTITIES UNDER THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GREEN ECONOMY
Abstract
The article is devoted to developing a methodological framework for assessing the competitiveness of business entities in the context of the green economy and the widespread implementation of the sustainable development concept. The relevance of the research is determined by the transformation of the nature of enterprises' competitive advantages, the increasing influence of environmental, social, and institutional factors on business performance, and the need to adapt existing methodological approaches to the new requirements of competitiveness management. Traditional economic-centered assessment concepts, which are primarily based on financial and economic indicators, are becoming increasingly insufficient for providing an objective reflection of the long-term development potential of enterprises, their adaptability to regulatory changes, their capacity for environmental innovation, and their ability to generate sustainable competitive advantages. In this regard, the study aims to develop a methodological framework for assessing the competitiveness of business entities by integrating environmental, social, and institutional determinants in the context of the green economy. To achieve this objective, the article examines current trends in the transformation of the methodology for assessing enterprise competitiveness and identifies the main directions of its evolution under the influence of economic greening, the development of ESG approaches, and the circular economy model. The limitations of traditional methodological approaches are identified, and the necessity of their modernization to meet the contemporary challenges of the green economic transition is substantiated. The study systematizes the key directions for transforming the methodological framework of competitiveness assessment, including the transition from an economic-centered approach to an integrated assessment model, the combination of economic, environmental, and social criteria, the application of a dynamic assessment logic, and the expansion of the range of factors shaping competitive advantages. A conceptual framework that describes the relationship between socio-environmental factors and the selection of methodological approaches for enterprise competitiveness assessment is proposed. The expediency of integrating environmental and social determinants into the methodological framework for competitiveness assessment is substantiated as a necessary prerequisite for improving the reliability of analytical results and supporting effective managerial decision-making. It is demonstrated that accounting for environmental efficiency, social responsibility, institutional capacity, and enterprises' ability to achieve sustainable development provides a more comprehensive representation of businesses' actual competitive potential under conditions of structural and technological transformation.
