In contemporary society, tolerance and co-existence are widely discussed and significant topics at both the national and international levels, particularly in societies or nations facing instability, or even in countries where war is ongoing. When considering the relevance of this topic, the first figure who comes to mind is Gautama Buddha. The spiritual doctrine he disseminated is referred to as Buddhist philosophy. Buddhist philosophy is a humanistic philosophy; Gautama Buddha himself propagated it for the peace and well-being of humanity and of the animal world. Therefore, research into the concepts of tolerance and co-existence within Buddhist philosophy is highly relevant today, as it aims to realize a renewed appreciation of their importance among people. The research has been conducted using an analytical approach, involving the collection and analysis of theories and data from primary texts, secondary sources, and research papers related to Buddhist philosophy. The aims and objectives of this article are to highlight the importance of tolerance and co-existence—concepts central to Buddhist philosophy—in the contemporary context and to build a humane world by encouraging people to embrace these values for the reason of establishing peace and well-being. Given the scarcity of institutional research on the subject, this study is considered significantly relevant in the contemporary context.
