Cross‐Cultural Applicability and Application of the Nursing Leaders’ Readiness for Artificial Intelligence Scale: A Cross‐Sectional Study

Abstract

Aims To translate, revise and evaluate the Chinese‐version Nursing Leaders’ Readiness for Artificial Intelligence Scale and assess Chinese nursing leaders’ AI readiness. Design Cross‐sectional survey. Methods The research team conducted translation, cognitive interviews, a pilot survey and psychometric evaluation. Survey participants were 762 nursing managers. The reliability and validity of the Chinese‐version scale were examined. The status and influencing factors of AI readiness among Chinese nursing managers were investigated. Results The translated scale comprises 20 items. Cronbach’s α was 0.824. Regarding validity, the three‐factor model demonstrated a good fit. The square roots of the average variance extracted, absolute values of correlation coefficients among dimensions and content validity index values were acceptable. The mean AI readiness score was 65.27 ± 9.78. Of the participants, 624 scored above 60 points, 136 scored 40–60 points and 2 scored below 40 points. Scores differed significantly by hospital type, hospital level, department, training participation, prior AI tool or system use and frequency of AI usage. Conclusion The Chinese‐version scale demonstrated good reliability and validity and can effectively assess AI readiness among Chinese nursing managers. Nursing leaders generally demonstrated a favourable level of AI readiness; however, factors such as hospital type and level remain significant determinants influencing nursing leaders’ AI readiness. Implications for Nursing Management This study provides a standard measurement tool for Chinese hospitals to check how ready their nursing managers are for AI. These findings help us understand the current state of AI readiness among nursing managers in China. The results can help improve AI use strategies. In addition, they can help bring AI into nursing practice more smoothly. This study has important value for moving forward with digital change and smart nursing in China.

Cross-cultural validation of the Chinese version of the lean management scale for nursing services in hospitals

Background Lean management has been increasingly applied in nursing services to improve workflow efficiency and reduce waste in care processes. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Lean Management Scale for Nursing Services in Hospitals (LMS-N) among Chinese clinical nurses. Methods A total of 2,127 clinical nurses were recruited from four tertiary hospitals in Liaoning Province, China, using convenience sampling. Following Brislin’s translation guidelines, the LMS-N was translated and culturally adapted into Chinese. Psychometric evaluation included item analysis, internal consistency and test–retest reliability, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, parallel analysis, convergent and discriminant validity, and measurement invariance testing. Results Parallel analysis and exploratory factor analysis supported a five-factor structure, explaining 62.609% of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated acceptable model fit (CMIN/DF = 2.130, SRMR = 0.046, RMSEA = 0.032, GFI = 0.967, AGFI = 0.958, NFI = 0.971, IFI = 0.985, RFI = 0.967, CFI = 0.985). Reliability indices indicated satisfactory internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.933; McDonald’s ω = 0.931) and test–retest reliability (0.880). Measurement invariance across gender, department, and educational attainment was supported. Conclusion The Chinese version of the LMS-N demonstrated acceptable reliability and validity among clinical nurses from tertiary hospitals in one province of China. The scale may be useful for assessing lean management implementation in nursing practice, although further validation in more diverse settings is warranted.

Reliability and Validity of the Chinese Version of the Nurse’s Spiritual Sensitivity Scale

Background Nurses’ spiritual sensitivity refers to the ability to identify the spiritual needs of patients and their families and to address these needs through ethical decision‐making in clinical practice. However, there are currently no validated instruments to measure the spiritual sensitivity of Chinese nurses. Aims This study aimed to adapt the Nurses’ Spiritual Sensitivity Scale (NSSS) into Chinese and to evaluate its reliability and validity among Chinese nurses. Methods After forward translation, back‐translation, cross‐cultural adaptation, and expert consultation, a Chinese version of the NSSS was developed. In a cross‐sectional study, a total of 508 nurses were recruited from two hospitals to evaluate the instrument’s psychometric properties. Content validity was assessed using the content validity index (CVI), and structural validity was evaluated using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) (n = 303) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) (n = 205). Reliability was examined using Cronbach’s α coefficient for internal consistency and the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) for test–retest reliability. Results The Chinese version of the NSSS comprises 20 items across two dimensions: professional spiritual sensitivity and inner spiritual sensitivity. The item‐level CVI (I‐CVI) ranged from 0.833 to 1.000; the scale‐level CVI (S‐CVI) was 0.900, and the average S‐CVI was 0.983. EFA (n = 303) extracted two factors, with a cumulative variance explained of 61.658%. CFA (n = 205) supported a two‐dimensional structure. The overall Cronbach’s α coefficient of the scale was 0.927, and the test–retest reliability coefficient was 0.911. For the two dimensions, the Cronbach’s α coefficients were 0.943 and 0.914, and the test–retest reliability coefficients were 0.867 and 0.935. Conclusions The Chinese version of the NSSS is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing the spiritual sensitivity of Chinese nurses. Implications for Nursing Management The validated Chinese NSSS offers potential utility for screening training needs, evaluating educational interventions, and guiding clinical supervision in spiritual care.

Development of the nursing artificial intelligence readiness scale for nursing students: a validity and reliability study.

Initial evidence is provided that the NAIRS is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing nursing students' readiness for artificial intelligence across knowledge/awareness, willingness to use AI, self-efficacy, and ethical awareness domains and may be useful for educational needs assessment and curriculum planning in nursing education.

Validation and Application of the Chinese Integral Nursing Leadership Scale Among Clinical Nurses

Background The leadership of nurse managers critically influences the development of nursing teams and advancement of healthcare institutions. However, no validated instrument exists to assess integral leadership among Chinese nurse managers. Recently, the Integral Nursing Leadership Scale (INLS) has been developed and applied. Aim To translate the INLS into Chinese, validate the psychometric properties of the Chinese version (CV‐INLS), and explore clinical nurses’ evaluations of integral nursing leadership among nurse managers. Methods The INLS was translated into Chinese according to Brislin guidelines. A convenience sample of 662 nurses completed the 30‐item CV‐INLS. The psychometric properties of CV‐INLS, including structural validity and reliability, were evaluated following COSMIN guidelines. The validated CV‐INLS was subsequently used to assess clinical nurses’ perceptions of integral nursing leadership among Chinese nurse managers (n = 1, 023). Results The content validity (I‐CVI = 0.929–1.000, S‐CVI/AVE = 0.993) of the CV‐INLS was satisfactory. Structural validity supported the four‐factor model with an acceptable model fit in the confirmatory factor analysis (CFI = 0.973, TLI = 0.970, RMSEA = 0.069, SRMR = 0.050). Multigroup CFA supported measurement invariance across age and education groups (configural, metric, and scalar/threshold invariance). Construct validity was supported by evidence of convergent and discriminant validity. In addition, excellent reliability was shown with an ordinal α of 0.942, ω of 0.943, and an ICC of 0.987. In the validation sample, the clinical nurses’ evaluations of nursing managers indicated moderately high leadership levels, with an overall CV‐INLS total score of 118.04 ± 29.69. Perceived integral nursing leadership levels were associated with age (30–39 years), educational level (bachelor’s degree or higher), years of experience (10 years or more), and working in an ICU setting. Conclusions The CV‐INLS showed strong psychometric properties and can be used to assess perceived integral nursing leadership among nurse managers. Perceived integral nursing leadership was moderately high among nurses in the surveyed tertiary hospitals. Implications for Nursing Management The CV‐INLS may provide useful insights into perceived integral nursing leadership among nurse managers and inform leadership development in tertiary hospital settings.
