Abstract
There is limited research examining how technology-enhanced assessment functions in nontraditional schools. The following research question guided our study: How are technology-enhanced formative assessment strategies perceived to support student learning in a flexible-paced high school environment? The study employed an educational design approach to co-develop and implement formative assessment strategies with teacher-participants during six professional learning sessions throughout the school year. Drawing on data from pre- and post-surveys administered to teachers (n = 36), researcher field notes with reflections during the professional learning sessions, and open-ended survey responses from students at the end of the school year (n = 43), we found: (a) a greater reported use of digital methods for formative assessment and a significant increase in the use of authentic, real world assessment criteria; (b) teacher and student perceptions that timely, constructive, and accessible digital feedback supported learning experiences; and (c) recognition that students could be more actively involved in determining assessment criteria. Students also reported benefits from receiving digital feedback, opportunities for self-assessment, and greater clarity in their learning progression. While technology can enrich feedback and efficiency, careful attention must be paid to sustaining equity and learner voice in assessment design.
Assessment is vital as it support student learning and informing instructional practice. The increasing integration of digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) in education has created new opportunities to strengthen formative assessment in contemporary educational settings. This conceptual literature review examines the potential of technology-enabled assessment to enhance formative assessment practices in British curriculum schools situated in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Guided by the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, the study synthesizes contemporary research on learning analytics, AI-supported feedback, and digital assessment to assess their contributions to personalized learning, data-driven instructional decisions, and the enhancement of teacher effectiveness. The review also considers significant challenges, including ethical concerns, academic integrity, teacher autonomy, data privacy, and equitable access to technology. The findings suggest that the successful implementation of technology-enabled assessment necessitates a balance between technological advancements and sound pedagogical practices, human oversight, and continuous professional development. The paper concludes with practical recommendations for educators and school leaders seeking to integrate AI-enabled assessment in a manner that fosters meaningful learning while maintaining ethical and educational standards in British curriculum schools in the UAE.

The integration of learner-centered pedagogy and digital technology has become increasingly important for improving English language learning outcomes. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of integrating CBL with interactive media to enhance students’ English language proficiency for junior high school students. The study employed an exploratory case study design using mixed methods. Participants included junior high school students and English teachers involved in the implementation of CBL supported by interactive media. Data were collected through pre- and post-tests, questionnaires, classroom observations, and interviews. Instrument reliability analysis indicated acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.7613). The findings revealed substantial improvements in students’ learning outcomes. The mean score increased from 52.00 on the pre-test to 83.00 on the post-test, exceeding the minimum passing criterion of 75.00. Learning performance also became more consistent, as reflected in the reduction of the standard deviation from 6.51 to 3.61 and the increase in minimum scores from 45 to 74. Questionnaire results showed that student engagement demonstrated the strongest construct validity, while perceived improvement showed adequate validity and motivation exhibited a weaker correlation. Qualitative evidence further indicated higher levels of engagement, clearer understanding of learning materials, greater confidence in English use, and more active classroom interaction. The study concludes that integrating CBL with interactive media effectively enhances English proficiency, engagement, and learner confidence. These findings provide practical guidance for implementing technology-enhanced, learner-centered English instruction in secondary education.

This study examines the impact of competency-based curricula (CBCs) and technology on teaching and learning literature in English among secondary schools in Arusha, Tanzania. Critical thinking, creativity and student participation were not much promoted in the traditional teacher-centered practices of Tanzania's education system. The introduction of CBC addressed this challenge by promoting a learner-centered approach emphasizing skills and competencies required in the twenty-first century. A mixed-methods approach was adopted in the present study to collect data from both instructors and students at various schools through surveys, interviews and classroom observations. The findings reveal that CBCs increases student engagement and participation in English literature by motivating students to develop critical analytical skills through active learning. Thereafter, technology integration including digital resources, online platforms and multimedia tools, significantly enhances the educational curriculum by providing diverse text material and encouraging an interactive learning atmosphere. The study also emphasizes the need for professional development of instructors and adequate technological infrastructure. Overall, the results of this study reveal that when a competency-based curriculum is integrated with technology, it makes the literature in English education more interesting, dynamic, resourceful and successful, preparing students for the globalized digital world.

This paper seeks to investigate the use of digital learning technologies in fostering interactive learning among education postgraduate students and in-service teachers at Ajman University, UAE. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, data were collected through a survey of 156 participants who were enrolled in the postgraduate diploma in education at Ajman University for the year 2025/2026. The findings suggest that participants reported high levels of digital learning technologies incorporation in learning and generally perceived them as having a positive effect on their learning experiences in the area of interactive learning. Most participants showed interest in reading and writing assignments on electronic devices and used interactive learning technologies, as well as audios and visuals. Participants also reported a perceived positive influence of digital learning technologies on interaction, motivation, and concentration and engagement in the process of learning. However, a number of challenges were identified, including technological, administrative, and instructional barriers that may affect the use of digital learning technologies negatively. The study contributes both theoretically and practically to the growing conversation around educational innovation, offering grounded recommendations for institutions seeking to integrate digital learning technologies more effectively into higher education learning environments.

This study examined the degree to which teachers in inclusive education schools in Qasabat Al‑Salt possess digital teaching skills. A descriptive survey design was used with an intentional sample comprising the full population of eligible government‑school teachers (N=16) during the first semester of 2023/2024. Data were collected via a questionnaire targeting three domains of digital teaching: planning, implementation, and evaluation. Results indicated a moderate overall level of digital teaching skills in the context of inclusive education. Based on these findings, the study proposes a targeted professional development plan emphasizing: (a) lesson planning that integrates accessible digital resources and universal design for learning principles; (b) technology‑supported delivery (e.g., assistive tools, platform fluency, classroom management in blended settings); and (c) assessment practices that leverage digital tools for differentiation and feedback. Practical implications for educational leaders include allocating resources for school‑level technologies, scheduling sustained, practice‑embedded training, and aligning supervision standards with digital‑inclusion competencies. Limitations include the small, single‑district sample and self‑report measures; future research should employ larger, multi‑site samples, include classroom observations, and examine student outcomes to validate skill–impact links. Overall, the evidence supports systematic capacity‑building to strengthen teachers’ digital readiness for inclusive classrooms.
