Abstract

In this study, CO2 was captured in monoethanolamine, forming hydroxyethyl carbamate, which was subsequently converted into 2‐oxazolidinone under ambient conditions with the aid of a Zn‐NC catalyst derived from MOF. The catalyst was extensively characterized using PXRD, N2 Sorption, NH3 and CO2‐TPD, H2‐TPR, XPS, EPR, Raman, HRTEM, and FESEM. The catalytic performance was attributed to the presence of frustrated Lewis pairs (FLP) on the surface. The study of masking of active sites with pyridine and KSCN confirmed the FLPs as key active sites. Density Functional Theory studies revealed that the adsorption energy of the hydroxyl group and carboxylate group in the hydroxyethyl carbamic acid indicated the preferential adsorption modes. The charge density difference (CDD) analysis provided valuable evidence of how adsorption geometry influences electron redistribution, offering a supportive insight into likely reaction pathway and product selectivity. Under optimum reaction conditions determined by central composite design (CCD) model, highest yield of 84% was obtained for 2‐oxazolidinone using Zn‐NC catalyst. This study emphasizes the defective nature of Zn‐NC catalyst, resulting in the formation of FLPs contributing to an enhanced catalytic activity. The catalyst was resilient to leaching and was found to be recyclable up to 4 cycles.

Selective Electroreductive Amination of 5-HMF Enabled by Facet-Engineered Frustrated Lewis Pair-Type Oxygen Vacancies on CeO2 Nanocrystals.

Electrocatalytic construction of C─N bonds from biomass-derived platform molecules offers a sustainable route to value-added nitrogen-containing chemicals. In particular, the electrocatalytic reductive amination (ERA) of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) with ethanolamine provides a green alternative to conventional redu...

Co‐Ligand‐Induced Electronic Modulation Controls Substrate Adsorption and Selectivity in Biomass Electrooxidation

ABSTRACT The electrooxidation of 5‐hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2,5‐furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) is often limited by competitive adsorption between HMF and surface‐bound hydroxyl species (OHads), which governs both activity and selectivity, yet independent control over these interfacial adsorption processes remains...

Interface‐regulated Co‐doped Pd/ ZSM ‐5 toward efficient selective hydrogenation of phenol to cyclohexanone

Cyclohexanone serves as a crucial precursor in the chemical industry and can be produced via selective hydrogenation of phenol, a process that suffers from sluggish reaction kinetics and over‐hydrogenation to cyclohexanol. This study develops a hierarchical ZSM‐5 zeolite‐supported Pd–Co bimetallic catalyst (Pd–Co/D...

Hollow Co3O4 Nanoreactors for Selective Catalytic Oxidation of Emerging Contaminants via Electron-Transfer-Mediated Peroxydisulfate Activation

The selective removal of electron-rich emerging organic contaminants (EOCs) from aquatic environments remains a critical challenge, as conventional radical-based oxidation processes suffer from poor selectivity and interference from background constituents. To address this issue, we report an electron-transfer-mediated...

Supported Bimetallic Pt/X Catalysts for the Hydrodeoxygenation of N‐(2‐hydroxyethyl)Succinimide

Biomass presents an attractive resource for a sustainable production of platform chemicals and monomers. Especially N‐containing compounds are broadly utilized as solvents, in polymer production and as fine chemicals or pharmaceutics. An important compound is N‐vinyl‐pyrrolidone used for polyvinylpyrrolidone production...
